Arizona State University

ASU uses strategically placed LCD screens to inform students about the importance of recycling

Situation:

The Arizona State University's Recycling Department needed an effective communication tool to inform students about the importance of recycling at campus. The ASU Recycling Department is responsible for increasing the amount and type of items recycled while simultaneously reducing waste and contamination. ASU Recycling Services provides bins around campus for aluminum, plastic, and paper. Additionally, the university de-manufactures electronics, recycles batteries, toner and ink cartridges, cell phones, and even shoes. Brochures and posters were not effective enough and NORVISION was hired to make sure the recycling messages reached students and employees.

Solution:

NORVISION designed a simple dynamic signage system consisting of 40-inch LCD screens placed in the Student Recreation Complex. Content is updated weekly and the students are responding to the messages on the screens. The messages inform the students and employees about commingled recycling, cardboard, sensitive documents and shredded paper, ink and laser toner cartridges, batteries, packaging material, glass recycling, light bulb recycling, general recycling information, waste reduction and saving money.
